After a losing your baby in Pregnancy at whatever stage, when is the right time to go back to work?

Some women jump back in quickly and want to return to “normal” as quickly as possible, but others like me wanted to feel ready.

To be honest, I don’t think I felt ready but it was with pressure from work that I went back when I did.  I had the most unsympathetic boss, a female, who expected me to be the same,  even though I had been through a tragedy that left me stripped bare. Everything felt different, I was vulnerable and felt I had no back bone.  I kept going to the bathroom to cry when I was under pressure and when someone said something nice to me.

I was lucky however, that my HR department WAS sympathetic and offered me counselling which helped me through the worst of it.

I’m not alone in this – many women have told me similar stories, so much so, that they felt so isolated they ended up leaving. Which is what I did – nothing felt the same, work meant nothing, I was a blundering mess and I need to “find myself” again.  I needed space just to “be” and to figure out what I wanted.  All I knew is that I didn’t want this!  I left and took some temporary work until I figured it out.

Finally I found it, that thing that was going to give me an emotional lift, something that made my heart sing!  I trained as an Aromatherapist and took great joy in helping others feel better.  It gave me meaning, it gave me a purpose and it put me on my right path.  Since that time I’ve been building my skills and implementing new tools and doing what I feel is my life purpose – helping other women who have lost babies and #miscarriage get through this very difficult time.
